Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Minimalism are two concepts that are increasingly being applied to the events industry. Events are now designed and executed with a focus on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, to create a welcoming and safe environment for attendees from all backgrounds.
This can include efforts to increase diversity among speakers and vendors, creating accessible spaces and resources for attendees, and addressing and challenging biases and discriminatory practices.
Minimalism in event planning, on the other hand, is manifested in various ways, such as reducing waste through eco-friendly practices, simplifying event décor, or streamlining the event schedule to create a more focused and engaging experience for attendees.
In this event industry experts podcast series Eva Talk, we asked Danielle S. Russell, CAE to share her viewpoints on some of the strategies that can be used by event professionals to foster greater diversity, equity, and inclusion at their events.
She also discussed how event professionals can approach minimalism in event design and planning and its benefits.
